History:
The Opera House, located on the second floor of the Wakefield, New Hampshire Town Hall, was originally constructed in 1895. The Opera House played an important role in the history of the town of Wakefield, New Hampshire.
The facility now harmoniously houses its original combination of Town Hall and the 200 seat Opera House. In 2001, having observed over time how the Opera House had fallen into a state of neglect, Wakefield citizens banded together to create a non-profit organization Wakefield Projects, Inc. to spearhead efforts to restore the opera house and the town hall, an effort which is still in progress.
The Opera House is managed as a venue for performances by the Wakefield Opera House Performing Arts Committee, with the support of Wakefield Projects, Inc. It is hoped that this fine small theatre will once again become a focal point for entertainment and the performing arts in Wakefield and surrounding communities.
